What is paper trading on Polymarket?

Paper trading — Simulated positions at real prices, with no money at risk, to test a strategy before funding it.

A paper trade records what would have happened: the entry price the order book offered at that moment, the shares that size would have bought, the taker fee, hourly marks at live prices, and the payout when Polymarket settles the market. Nothing is submitted to the exchange.

Paper results are optimistic in one specific way: a real order arriving a few seconds later may find less depth. A good paper engine walks the actual ask levels rather than using a quoted price, records partial fills, and says so. It also treats a source wallet's sell as an exit signal, never as a short.
